Oklahoma Roots Anthem “Tulsa Blues” Ignites European Scene as Poppa Nite Fields International Cover Requests & Prepares “Dead Zone” Single

TULSA, OKLAHOMA — Blues Odyssey, the highly anticipated four-volume cinematic sound experience from American roots artist Poppa Nite, officially launched this week on all major digital platforms. Almost overnight, the project’s flagship single, “Tulsa Blues,” commanded international attention, with the UK and Norway driving a massive wave of early listenership. Within days, the official video for “Tulsa Blues” surpassed 13,000 views and 1,200 full play-throughs, with 56% of the audience tuning in from the UK and 7% from Norway.

This sudden international traction is not only resonating with listeners but with fellow musicians. Several European blues artists have already reached out requesting permission to cover tracks from the sprawling 40-song project, specifically eyeing the Chicago-meets-Detroit anthem, “South Side Rhythm & Motor City Rhyme.”

The project’s immediate impact is the culmination of Poppa Nite’s 20-year tenure as a cornerstone of radio and the independent music community. A dedicated champion of the genre, his two decades curating and promoting independent artists deeply inform his original work. While fiercely dedicated to traditional roots, his sonic approach is expansive. As Poppa Nite often says, “I hear the Blues in everything.”

That expansive vision is fully realized in Blues Odyssey’s third volume, which serves as a vital act of historical preservation. Volume 3 features updated scores and lyrics adapted from an original sheet music collection spanning from 1807 to 1941, an archive proudly managed by RadioIDL. By breathing new life into this forgotten musical legacy, the album traverses a vast landscape—ranging from classic blues and Irish jigs to powerful pieces like the 1855 composition “Slavery Is A Hard Foe to Battle.”

Adding to the momentum, an unreleased, raw acoustic cut of the track “Dead Zone” was posted recently and immediately garnered 2,000 plays. The song was written in just 17 minutes—the exact time required to become radioactive for a PET scan—while Poppa Nite was at the Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute. Observing fellow warriors (patients) and champions (caregivers) navigating a medical wave of information on phones and kiosks, he penned a striking narrative about the modern tragedy of digital disconnection. “Dead Zone” tackles the slow-motion violence of a “pay-to-play world” and the digital divide separating those with access from the “digital ghosts” left behind.

“We always knew this music had a heartbeat that would travel, but seeing the immediate embrace from the UK and Norwegian blues communities—and having artists across the pond already asking to cover these songs—is incredible,” says eLiz (Lil’e), co-owner of the international streaming station RadioIDL.com and Manager/Publicist for the Blues Odyssey project. “European audiences have a deep reverence for authentic American roots music, and they are connecting with the stories Poppa Nite is telling.”

The official studio cuts, “Dead Zone” and “Dead Zone Pub Song,” will see their official release this Friday. Poppa Nite credits the completion of this monumental 40-track labor of love to the miracle of God and the strength of eLiz (Lil’e) ELizabeth E. Ellis.

🎙️ ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Short Bio Tulsa-based musician, songwriter, and 20-year veteran broadcaster Poppa Nite has been a cornerstone of the roots music ecosystem. As the co-owner of RadioIDL.com (alongside his partner eLiz) and host of the long-running My Version of the Blues, he has spent years championing the genre’s evolving history. With his groundbreaking 4-volume release, Blues Odyssey (A Cinematic Sound Experience), Poppa Nite steps into the artist spotlight, blending traditional storytelling and historical preservation with innovative “digital session musician” production to create a wholly original musical journey.

Full Biography Poppa Nite is a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based musician, singer-songwriter, and veteran radio personality deeply embedded in the national roots music scene. Best known to global audiences as the co-owner of RadioIDL.com and the charismatic host of My Version of the Blues, he has spent over two decades curating, championing, and writing about the blues in all its forms.

Now, the broadcaster becomes the creator with his ambitious original project: Blues Odyssey.

Every odyssey starts with a single, persistent thought. For this four-volume collection, the thought was “Can’t Believe in Hate.” Volume 1 Track 2 & Volume 4 Track 10. That song took root in my mind and was relentless until I figured out a way to bring it to life. As you journey through this project, you will hear that central theme woven across three of the four volumes in completely different musical arrangements.

Spanning four volumes, the collection moves from deep acoustic roots and historical narratives to driving Motown rhythms and blues-rock. To bring these expansive sounds to life, Poppa Nite embraced a cutting-edge approach to production. Serving as the primary architect—writing all lyrics, charting chord arrangements, and directing vocal phrasing, BPM, and rhythm sections—he utilized advanced AI software as his “digital session musicians.”

It all culminates on the final track of Volume 4—presented exactly as I first heard it, driven by the stomp and clap rhythm of a gospel choir. I wanted it to be the last song you hear to leave you exactly where I started: hopefully inspired, or at the very least, entertained.

Much like modern producers pairing 70s analogue boards with digital effects, or legends like Sir Paul McCartney utilizing AI to complete a final vision, Poppa Nite used these tools to access everything from full orchestras to ancient acoustic instruments. The result is a boundary-pushing collaboration between human direction and digital performance, making elite studio capabilities accessible and opening a new frontier in entertainment.

đź’ż ABOUT THE ALBUM & TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

Every odyssey starts with a single, persistent thought. For this project, that thought was the song “Can’t Believe in Hate.” Woven across three of the four volumes in completely different musical arrangements, it culminates on the final track of Volume 4—presented exactly as originally conceived, driven by the stomp and clap rhythm of a gospel choir.

Track Commentary:

  • “Tulsa Blues” (Vol. 1, Track 1): Opening the album with a nod to the gritty roots music ecosystem of the Midwest. Using digital session musicians, the exact phrasing and rhythm section was dialed in to capture the driving blues-rock groove that defines the Tulsa scene.
  • “Dead Zone” & “Dead Zone Pub Song” (Vol. 1 & 2): Tackling the modern tragedy of digital disconnection and the “pay-to-play” world. Volume 1 features a driving, atmospheric studio arrangement reflecting artificial light, while Volume 2 strips it down to an intimate, acoustic “Pub Song” alternative take.
  • “South Side Rhythm & Motor City Rhyme” (Vol. 1, Track 10): A conceptual marriage of the gritty, muddy-water blues of Chicago’s Chess Records with the polished hit-making machinery of Detroit’s Motown. (Note: This track has already garnered cover requests from international blues artists.)
  • “The Blues They Bind Us” (Vol. 2, Track 1): The thesis statement for Poppa Nite’s years in broadcasting. Captures a groove that feels historically grounded yet entirely timeless.
  • “Two Ancient Peoples Choctaw & Irish (The Story of 1847)” (Vol. 2, Track 6): Deep historical storytelling about the Choctaw Nation sending relief to the Irish during the Potato Famine, weaving ancient and traditional acoustic instruments into an emotional narrative.
  • “Unmarked Grave (Story of Ota Benga)” (Vol. 1, Track 6): A deeply historical and tragic narrative honoring Ota Benga, with carefully commanded pacing, rests, and haunting background arrangements.
  • “Bluin’ the Blues” (Vol. 4, Track 4): A sprawling, slow-burning masterclass in traditional blues instrumentation clocking in at nearly seven minutes. Poppa Nite steps up to the mic to sing the lead vocals completely raw, proving modern studio technology can still capture the soul and swing of vintage slow-drag blues.

🎛️ THE PRODUCTION PROCESS (FAQ)

Q: What do you mean by “digital session musicians”? A: Think of it like hiring a world-class studio band, but entirely in the digital realm. I use advanced AI software to perform the instruments and execute the arrangements I create. As the project’s architect, I direct the BPM, phrasing, vocal ranges, and style. The software plays the parts I dictate—whether I need a solo acoustic guitar, a driving rhythm section, or a full orchestra.

Q: Did AI write the music or the lyrics? A: Not at all. Every single lyric, chord progression, and core melody on Blues Odyssey is 100% original and written by me (with the exception of historical public domain restoration). The AI is simply the instrument I used to perform the music, much like how a producer directs session players in a physical studio. I also provide human vocal performances and handle the traditional studio enhancements and mastering.

Q: Why use digital session players instead of a traditional studio band? A: The sheer scale of this 40-track project demanded it. One track might require a gritty Tulsa blues-rock setup, while the next needs a Motown horn section, a stomping gospel choir, or ancient traditional instruments. Utilizing digital session musicians gave me the unprecedented freedom to access all of these sounds instantly.

Q: Is using AI in music a new concept? A: The collaboration between human creativity and AI has actually been evolving within studio software for many years. Even legends like Sir Paul McCartney have utilized AI tools to finalize their artistic visions. I look at it as the next evolution of production—it is very much like pairing a classic 70s analog recording board with today’s modern digital effects.
